Boost for Navy rugby from Tharunyata Hetak Foundation

Sri Lanka Navy which is taking part in competitive rugby after a
lapse of three years got a boost from Thaarunyata Hetak Foundation
headed by Namal Rajapaksa. The Foundation was formed to give the youth
of the country to show their prowess in various fields which could be
used to the maximum to benefit the country at large.

Their main aim is also to find new sportsmen and women to reach
national level in various sports.
With this being their motive they have come forward to help the
sailors who gave up the sporting activities three years ago due to their
active service in safeguarding the country's sovereignty.
This season the Rugby Committee of the Sri Lanka Navy headed by
Commodore N.K.D. Nanayakkara has revived rugby in the Navy and entered
the forthcoming Premier League Tourney. The sailors are led by Sub
Lieutenant Yositha Rajapaksa has found the sponsors through this
Foundation. This sponsorship was arranged through the Asian German
Sports Exchange Program which donated all equipment needed for the team.
The other co-sponsors being Red Bull and the Media sponsor MTV.
Lalith Pium Perera, General Secretary of the Foundation said that they
are thankful to the sponsors for coming forward to give much needed
support for a service team that helped to save the nation for the sake
of future generations. Ronnie Ibrahim, the coach said that though they
come out as underdogs this season they hope to surprise the fans through
the new set of players in the team.
