Silver jubilee celebration of Young Women's Muslim Association
The Young Women's Muslim Association (YWMA) is a major Muslim
community based organisation upholding Islamic traditions and values
whilst directing its efforts towards the welfare and amelioration of
women, family and school going children. The YWMA is the sister
organisation of the YMMA. It was founded on April 6, 1983 with the
objective of diversifying the YMMA's activities in relation to women's
participation in education, socio-economic development and empowerment.
The YWMA's annual charity program to help the underprivileged
includes health camps, educational scholarship schemes, vocational
training, poverty alleviation, IDPs relief and rehabilitation, marriage
and widows fund.
The YWMA will celebrate its 25th year, silver jubilee on May 27, 2009
at the Marine Grand, Wellawatte.
The chief guest for the event is Saleem Marsoof, Chief Justice,
Supreme Court and the guests of honour are Rosli Ismail, High
Commissioner for Malaysia in Sri Lanka, Gehan Ameen, High Commissioner
for Egypt in Sri Lanka and Shaheen A. Gilani, High Commissioner for
Pakistan in Sri Lanka. |
