'Public service, not a duty alone'

Public servants should always respect humanism and public service should be carried out not as a duty, but also as a great service, Construction and Engineering Services Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.

Rules and regulations are necessary, however they should not stop you from serving the pubic, he added. The Minister made these remarks at a seminar at Beruwala recently for public servants.

Minister Senaratne said public servants have the freedom to discharge their duties independently at all times. Politics is irrelevant where poverty and innocence are concerned.

Public servants have a duty to serve the public without considering their party affiliations. The Samurdhi program is aimed at helping the poorest of the poor in the country.

Therefore, apply all these rules and regulations in favour of people. "If any problem arises, you can bring it to and notice for solutions," Dr. Senaratne said.
