Man hurls grenade after failed robbery

Two bank employees were injured when a robber lobbed a hand grenade
after failing to rob money from a depositor at a bank in Giriulla town
yesterday morning.
Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said the robber followed the
CTB cashier entering with Rs. 122,500 to a bank in Giriulla town to
deposit money around 8.30 a.m. "When the bankers recognized the robber,
the suspect hurled a hand grenade before he fled," he added.
Two bank employees were injured in the incident.
"The suspect is believed to have entered a hilly area in Giriulla.
Police and villagers have surrounded the area to nab the culprit," SSP
Gunasekera said.
