Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said the robber followed the CTB cashier entering with Rs. 122,500 to a bank in Giriulla town to deposit money around 8.30 a.m. "When the bankers recognized the robber, the suspect hurled a hand grenade before he fled," he added.

Two bank employees were injured in the incident.

"The suspect is believed to have entered a hilly area in Giriulla. Police and villagers have surrounded the area to nab the culprit," SSP Gunasekera said.
