Vesak week in Kuwait
The "Vesak Week" organised by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Kuwait from
8-15 May will close today with the arrival of Most Ven. Aluthwewa
Soratha Thera the Chief Incumbent of the Kiriwehera Temple in Kataragama
and Chancellor of the Uva Wellassa University for the main Vesak
ceremony at the Embassy premises.
Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has given his blessings and
fullest support towards organising Vesak celebrations in Kuwait by
inviting Ven. Aluthwewa Soratha Thera to visit Kuwait for the main
ceremony to coincide with the "Vesak Week' in Kuwait.
Over 4,000 Buddhist devotees and well-wishes in Kuwait participated
at the two-day Vesak Pinkama which includes Aloka Pooja, Buddha Pooja,
Damma Sermon, Almsgiving, a Dansala, meditation program, Buddhist
discussions, Bakthi Gee etc. Ambassador Sarath Dissnayake together with
Embassy staff has celebrated this year's Vesak on a grand scale at the
Embassy premises.
The Sri Lanka Cultural Association in Kuwait has extended their
sponsorship and contribution towards the main ceremony by organising a
Sil campaign, a Thorana, Dansala and other meritorious deeds.
