Mohan Ellawala strengthened progressive political movement

Sabaragamuwa Governor Mohan Saliya Ellawala will be remembered as a veteran politician who helped to strengthen the progressive political movement by sacrificing his life for the cause of the SLFP, said Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services Minister and SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena in a condolence message issued yesterday.

The message said in his capacity as Balangoda SLFP Organizer Ellawala gained immense popularity by closely moving with the people with great humility to promote the party's policy and vision from grassroots, upto the highest social echelons.

As a result he had the opportunity of holding many positions as a Provincial Council Member, Chairman, Provincial Minister, Chief Minister and finally Governor. The late Ellawala was a brother of former Parliamentarian Nanda Ellawala who was a victim of opponents after being an outstanding character in the progressive political movement.

While acclaiming Mr. Ellawala's service towards enhancing the SLFP political structure in the Ratnapura district, I wish to express heartfelt condolences on behalf of the SLFP and on my personal behalf to his bereaved family and relatives."

May he attain Nibbana!
