Wesley thrash Lumbini 65-5

Wesley College trounced Lumbini MV by a massive margin of 65 points to 5 points in their inter school under 20 league rugby tournament fixture worked off at Longden Place yesterday.

The Wesleyites virtually went on the rampage as they planted as many as eleven tries while converting five of them after having built up a commanding 36 nil lead at half time. Lumbini MV managed to score only a solitary try.

Meanwhile Ananda College will take on Prince of Wales College Moratuwa in another inter school under 20 league rugby tournament match at the same venue today.


Holcim FA Cup results

Top soccer fare was witnessed at the Holcim FA Cup Championship preliminary round matches played throughout the country.

Holcim FA Cup the local version of the English FA Cup has aroused much interest amongst the clubs and its supporters. Large crowds were present at the matches played at different venues. It is hoped that enthusiasm will grow more in the coming fixtures.

Most of the games concluded during last week were well contested and a good standard of soccer was displayed.

The results: Premier SC beat Everyday 3-1, Serndbi SC beat Rebels SC, 3-1, Jamliya SC beat Al-Jijara SC 2-1, Great Star SC beat Colpetty United SC 6-2, Jupiter SC beat Badovita SC 3-1, Bolawatta SC beat Chilaw United SC 2-0, Manchester SC beat Jolly Boys SC 5-1, Sisu SC beat United SC, Anuradhapura 2-1. The matches were worked off in Colombo, Mawanella, Trincomalee, Beruwala, Chilaw Gampola and Kandy.


Silva elected to world body

Chairman Interim Committee Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) Professor Ranjith de Silva was elected into the Council of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) at their annual general meeting held in China yesterday.


Sports meet

The annual inter-house sports meet of Prince of Wales' College, Moratuwa Primary Section will be held on May 15 at the College Grounds commencing at 2 p.m. The Chief Guest will be Old Cambrian and member of the 2008 World Carrom Champion team Nishantha Fernando.
