International Committee of Red Cross worker, mother killed by LTTE

An ICRC local aid worker and his mother were killed by LTTE shelling in the No Fire Zone yesterday afternoon.

ICRC spokesperson Sarasi Wijeratne said Sivakurunathan Mayuran, a local member of the ICRC and his mother were killed in shelling near Mullaivaikkal.

"He was a technician attached to Water and Habitats of the ICRC," she added. Military spokesman Birgadier Udaya Nanayakkara said that the LTTE is directing indiscriminate fire at civilians fleeing from the LTTE captivity. "Security Forces engaged in the hostages rescuing mission in the NFZ are not using any heavy weapons," he added.
