Sandasen MARASINGHE
The Colombo High Court yesterday issued an open warrant on LTTE
leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and Pottuamman in connection with former
Foreign Minister Laxman Kadirgamar assassination case.
Colombo High Court Judge Kumuduni Wickramasinghe issued the warrant
when the case was taken up for hearing. The Court also decided to
proceed with the case in absentia of Prabhakaran and Pottuamman.
Former Foreign Minister Laxman Kadirgamar was assassinated with a
sniper attack at his residence at Longden Place, Colombo on August 12,
2005.
The Attorney General filed the case against Velupillai Prabakaran,
Pottuamman alias Shiva Shankar, Charles alias Charlis Master, Komadee
Manimekala alias Madee, Muttaiyah Sahadevan and Isithor Arokyanathan
alias Babu for conspiring with another LTTE member Vinothan to
assassinate Minister Kadirgamar and committing the murder as a result of
the conspiracy made at Kilinochchi and at Colombo between January 01,
2005 and August 12, 2005. The High Court removed the names of Charlis
Master, Komadee Manimekala yesterday from the indictment when Senior
State Counsel Shanil Kularatne pleaded to do so as the Inteligence Units
had confirmed the death of those two accused. Muttaiyah Sahadevan and
Isithor Arokyanathan alias Babu are in remand custody.
The Court earlier issued notice on the accused through the Mullaitivu
District Secretary but notice could not be delivered to them. Senior
State Counsel Shanil Kularatne appeared for the Attorney General.
