Improving rural health

The Provincial Health Ministry has taken steps to uplift the rural health services with a view to provide more health facilities to rural folk.

In accordance with this program rural hospitals and central dispensaries in Matale, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts are to be developed. The program will be completed within the current year


WPC oaths taking function

The oaths taking function for members selected to the fifth Provincial Council of the Western Province who have not yet taken their oaths before the Governor, will be held today at 9.30 a.m. at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall at Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07.


Public lecture

Professor Willie Mendis (Professor Emeritus, University of Moratuwa) will give a public lecture on “Palk Strait Time Bomb or Primer for Sri Lanka’s Development” at 5.00 p.m. on Thursday May 14 at the Auditorium of SLAAS, 120/10, Vidya Mawatha (Off Wijerama Mawatha) Colombo 07.


Donation

The Moratuwa Social Services Society which will be celebrating the Nineteenth Anniversary in July this year donated through Independent Television Network a consignment of essential items and clothing worth around Rs. 150,000 for the use of internally displaced persons in the North.

The society runs a home for elders with a total inmate population of 150 and a pre-school for children in the low income group.


Pinnacle unveiling ceremony

The Most Ven. Weweldeniye Medhalankara Mahanayake Thera of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya will unveil the pinnacle of a new Cetiya built at the Sirinandanarama Viharaya, Thaldiyawala Athurugiriya at a ceremony at the Viharaya premises today, May 14 at 8.30 a.m.


Burhani Scout campfire

The inaugural scout campfire of the 92nd Colombo Burhani Scout Group of Burhani Serendib School, Glen Aber Place, Colombo 4 will be held on Saturday, May 16 at the school premises at 7 p.m. to celebrate the first anniversary of the Group, under the patronage of the Chief Guest Janaab

Workshop

A workshop on "the correct strategy on writing books" organised by Pothmithuro website (www.potmithuro.com) with the participation of the National Library and Documentation Services Board and the author publishers. National Forum will be held at the National Library Services Board auditorium, Colombo on May 19 from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

The keynote lecture will be delivered by W. Sunil, Deputy Director National Library and Documentation Services Board.


AGM

Badur Mowlood

The program has been organised by Al Haj M. H. A. Haniffa, Chief Trustee of the Nawala Jummah Mosque. The recital of Badur Mawlood, will start on May 14 after Magrib prayers and will continue until Isha prayers at the Nawala Jummah Mosque. Thawba and Zikir Majlis will be conducted by Al Haj Moulavi N. M. Imthiyas (Noori) after Isha prayers.


Prayers, lectures

The program will commence on Sunday, May 17 with Rathibathul Jalaliya by Moulavi A. B. M. Mubarak (falahi) and Y. M. Rafi.

It will be conducted after Magrib prayers and will continue till Isha prayers. A religious lecture will also be conducted by Moulavi Al Haj M. T. Hilurhdeen (Falahi) after Isha prayers.


Sinhala New Year Festival

The Sri Lanka Ex-Air Force Logistics Association Sinhala New Year Festival will be held on May 24, Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Sri Lanka Air Force Boat Club, Katunayake.
