Work begins on North-East bridges
Walter LIYANARACHCHI
Construction work on several major bridges in the North and East
including damaged ones has commenced due to the healthy environment with
the fading away of terrorism. "The contractors assigned for the
construction of roads and bridges which are vitally important in the
North and East, delayed the completion of work since the terrorists were
dominating the locations. The bridge is 291 metres in length and is
expected to be completed in 2010, he said.
Construction of the Thallady bridge (Mannar bridge) recommenced and
the work is almost complete. The bridge is in
Medawachchiya-Mannar-Thalaimannar road. Its total length is 157.01
metres and the width is 10.40 metres.
The carriageway consists of two lanes and the footway is 1.50 m on
each side.
