Sierra Global receives ISO 9001:2008 certification

Sierra Global received the ISO 9001:2008 certification after the final audit conducted by Bureau Vertias Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.

“I consider this as a significant achievement as we are the first company in the telecom infrastructure development sector in Sri Lanka to receive the ISO 9001:2008 certification,” Director/CEO of Sierra Global, Dr. Arosha Fernando said.

As the second step of our commitment towards quality, actions have been already initiated to achieve ‘5S’ which we are hoping to get within the next 3 months, Dr. Fernando said.

ISO 9001 is the world’s most established quality framework. ISO 9001 helps to effectively manage any businesses as well as meeting of the customer’s requirements. Currently it is used by approximately 897,000 organizations in 170 countries, and approximately 650 organisations in Sri Lanka.

It helps all types of organizations to succeed through improved customer satisfaction, staff motivation and continual improvement.

By the end of 2010 existing certification issued to ISO 9001:2000 will no longer be valid. All ISO certified organisations will need the revised version of ISO 9001 in order to keep their certificates up to date.

Sierra Global is specialized in end to end telecommunication and relating services covering the fields of network planning, site acquisition, site development / civil construction, network implementation of switches and base stations, technical support, network services, consultancy services including international roaming, logistics and managed services. Sierra Global’s customer base covering over 40 clients including all telecom operators in Sri Lanka as well as selected telecom operators overseas such as British Telecom, Telstra and Vodafone.

“It is great to see Sierra Global get the ISO 9001:2008 accreditation at the very early stages. Dedication and commitment of their staff achieving this task should be acknowledged,” Manager, Certification and Training of Bureau Vertias Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, T. K. S. Ossan said.
