Russia marks Soviet win over Fascism
Russia: Russian President Dmitri Medvedev highlighted on Saturday the
significant victory of Soviet fighters over fascism and praised those
who won the Second World War.
Medvedev described this unquestionable triumph as "a turning point in
world history," a great example and lesson for peoples worldwide. You
gave the future generations and all of us life and liberty, Medvedev
said while addressing the veterans of the Great Patriotic War
(1941-1945) in a congratulatory speech as part of celebrations for the
Victory of May 9.
We have a tremendous debt to those who fell in the war and we will
never forget the fierce combats for Moscow and Stalingrad, or the 900
days of blockade in Leningrad and Kursk, added Medvedev.
He announced that the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory will be
marked in 2010 along with neighbors of the Commonwealth of Independent
States and other countries.
