Colombo District athletes to the fore

Colombo District came up with a superb display obtaining 620 points
carried away the P. H. Amaradasa Waidyatilaka Memorial Trophy for the
overall champions at the 23rd Annual Open Championships of the Sri Lanka
Masters Athletics held on April 29 and 30 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
Gampaha District finished second with 437 points while Kandy ended up
third with 305 points.
The Best athlete of the meet was K. M. Karunaratne (M 70) who
established new records in the 100m, 200m and 400 m.
The Best Performance (Track) men too went to K. M. Karunaratne (M 70)
while the Best Performance (Field) men, was won by J. M. Punchi Banda (M
70) for his performance of 8.78m in the Triple Jump.
Athletes from Lake House Sports Club won two Golds, three Silver and
one Bronze medals for Colombo District. P. K. D. Sriyani Alwis won the
women’s 200 and 400 metres Gold for Women over 45 years in a time of
1:22:09 and 33:66 respectively and Silver in the 100 metres. H. A.
Chaminda 5000 metres silver and P. Sudusinghe men’s over 45 years 400
metres hurdles (silver) and 110 metres hurdles (bronze) were the medel
winners for Lake House.
