Religious events at Sambodhi Viharaya

A series of religious events will be held at the Sri Sambodhi Viharaya, Colombo on Vesak Day starting with observance of Sil in the morning and meditation till evening with sermons by Ven. Dikwelle Upatissa Thera, Ven. Talalle Chandakitti Thera, Ven. Kolonnawe Sumangala Thera, Ven. Pathegama Sumanaratna Thera, Ven. Angulgamuwe Saddhamaloka Thera and Ven. Kelaniye Ajitha Thera.

A Dhamma discussion led by Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva P.C. and an alms-giving for the clergy will be organized by the Judges’ Association. The Buddha pooja with about 100 dishes would be brought in procession from the official residence of the Chief Justice to the Sambodhi Viharaya.

The religious events at the shrine on Vesak Day are conducted under the guidance of the Maha Nayake of the Malwatte Chapter the Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhita Thera and led by the chief incumbent of the shrine Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Thera.

The Chief Justice, President Court of Appeal Sathya Hettige, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka, Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickramaratna and members of the dayaka sabha will take part.

A perahera with elephants, Kandyan and low country dance troupes would take to the streets on Wijerama Mawatha and Bauddhaloka Mawatha and return to the shrine at 7.30 p.m. on the day after Vesak.


Pinkama in Mahara

A series of Pinkamas will be held at the Neligama Sri Shaila Sannarama Purana Viharaya, Mahara to invoke blessings on the President, Ministers and the Security Forces. This program began yesterday.

A special exposition of Sacred Relics of the Buddha will also be held today and tomorrow. Youth in the area have also organised a special Ashirwada pooja and a pirith chanting in the evening.

Ven. Hingurala Kande Pannananda Thera, Ven. Thabadiya Jinananda Thera and youth in the area are organising this event under the patronage of Adhikarana Sanganayake Thera of the Colombo region Ven. Makure Piyananda Thera.

Lectures on Gospel of St. Mark

Very Rev. Father Nilendra Gunasekere, Professor in Sacred Scripture at the National Seminary Ampitiya will deliver a series of lectures on the Gospel of St. Mark, on May 11 at 5.30 p.m. at the Colombo Y.M.C.A. Forum Hall. The lectures are conducted at the invitation of the Colombo YMCA Bible Study Institute.
