Six hundred war hero houses complete

Chief Government Whip Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told Parliament yesterday the construction work on 600 houses for the war heroes have already been completed under the project implemented to construct 50,000 houses for war heroes at Ipalogama in the Anuradhapura district.

This project commenced on May 15, 2007 had initially planned to construct 50,000 houses to overcome the shelter problem of war heroes.

Under the first phase of this project, construction work on 1509 houses have been commenced.

A sum of Rs. 1,400 million has been spent for the first phase of this project, he said.

The Minister said the estimated cost of this entire housing project is Rs. 2,112 million. A credit facility has also been obtained from the Bank of Ceylon for this project. The housing scheme has been named as "Ranajayapura Housing Scheme". The handing over of the houses under the first phase would be done in another four months.
