Woman sentenced in prostitution racket

Colombo High Court Judge Sarojani Kusala Weerawardene yesterday
sentenced a woman who was convicted for employing an underage girl for
prostitution for 13 years.
Court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 and another 12 months simple
imprisonment in default. The convict was also ordered to pay Rs.
1000,000 as compensation to the victim. Welmillage Don Anne Devika
Sanjeewani of Katubedda was convicted for employing a 16-year-old girl
for prostitution. The Attorney General filed indictment against
Sanjeewani for employing the girl for prostitution between July and
December 31, 2005. |
