Lanka and world one on defeating terrorism

World's opinion over the eradication of terrorism has not changed, said Media Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing, the Minister said that Sri Lanka remains committed to eradicate terrorism. The Minister said the international community has never opposed the Government's battle against terrorism.

"I see no difference between the opinion of Sri Lanka and the world over the eradication of terrorism," he said.

"The international community has raised concern over the security and the welfare of civilians who are being held hostage by the LTTE and those living in welfare camps in Vavuniya," the Minister said.

Minister Yapa said the Government has made all arrangements to ensure that the civilians are not affected by the mission to eradicate terrorism. The civilians in welfare camps have been provided all basic facilities on par with international standards, he said.

"The security and the welfare of civilians have been guaranteed," the Minister said. "Terrorism has become a threat to all countries."
