Tigers ambushed Arms’ haul seized

The Special Task Force (STF) ambushed an LTTE gang at Kanchikudiary,
Ampara on Saturday night, killing four terrorists and recovering a large
haul of arms, ammunition and explosive devices.
The LTTE gang believed to be behind a spate of killings of civilians
in the Ampara, Moneragala and Buttala areas in recent times were
ambushed on information from residents, Police said.
According to the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS), in a
subsequent search operation, the STF had recovered explosives,
accessories for bomb making, uniforms, medical items, I- com sets, T81
and T56 rifles, ammunition and other items and material needed for
survival in the jungle for a long period .
The STF continues to engage in search and destroy operations against
possible remaining terrorists in the area, the MCNS said.
Meanwhile the STF said that the slain terrorists had been identified
as LTTE intelligence wing members Vedanayagam, Elevandran, Kaleiwendran
and Sathyapavan. |
