Export Development and International Trade Minister Prof G.L. Peiris has been appointed acting Minister for Posts and Telecommunications. The Minister will assume duties at the Ministry today.

The Posts and Telecommunications portfolio fell vacant after Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mahinda Wijesekera sustained serious injuries following the Godapitiya suicide attack on a Muslim festival.

Minister Wijesekera is recuperating from injuries caused by the bomb explosion. Minister Prof G.L. Peiris has held numerous ministerial posts in the People’s Alliance Government and the United National Front’s Government since 1994.
