Helping hand for handloom industry
The founder leader of our party, the late Prime Minister S.W.R.D.
Bandaranaike set an example to the entire country by using certain
clothes made out of local raw material.
Under this Government too, we have taken steps to revitalise the
handloom industry through textile villages, Irrigation, Water
Management, Ports and Aviation Services Minister Chamal Rajapaksa said.
Minister Rajapaksa made these observations after inaugurating a handloom
textile training centre at Embilipitiya which marked the completion of
50 years of Chandrika Wewa.
The ceremony was held in memory of late D.A. Rajapaksa at the
invitation of Textile Development Minister Mahinda Ratnathilake.
"Under the open economy in our country all handloom machines in our
homes went out of production.
"However, this Government has taken every step to promote this
industry by granting various incentives. Provincial Councils too have
introduced special programs in this direction," Minister Rajapaksa said.
Textile Development Minister Mahinda Ratnathilake said the Government
has launched a series of programs to promote this sector by starting
training centres and textile villages.
Irrigation Development Minister Jayatissa Ranaweera, Director of
Textile Training and Services Centre Roy Maha Kumarage and Ministry
Secretary M.H.R.B. Herath were also present. |
