The Memorandum of understanding was signed by the Healthcare and
Nutrition Ministry officials and officials representing the French
Government on Thursday at the Ministry in Colombo. One of the hospitals
consisting of 35 beds and 25 doctors was set up at Chettikkulam in
Mannar recently.
The other hospital comprising 100 beds donated by Medicines Sans
Frontiers (MSF) will be set up at Manik Farm, Vavuniya.
Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the
hospitals faced a staff shortage problem. However, the Minister said
these problems will be solved by providing medical staff and nurses.
"We have also obtained clearance to send patients among IDPs to
hospitals in Colombo, Kandy, Kurunegala etc. Once these patients are
sent to these hospitals, there would not be any congestion," the
Minister said. |
