Houses for Slave Island homeless
Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh
Gunawardene visited the new housing complex now being
constructed at Dematagoda, Colombo. |
The housing complex at Dematagoda will mark yet another phase of the
concept' one house for each family' under the Mahinda Chinthana program,
said Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh
Gunawardene.
Minister Dinesh Gunawardene made an inspection tour recently on the
new housing complex at Dematagoda built for people who have lost houses
at Slave Island under the Beira Lake Development Project.
The first stage of this 1,000 houses project will be completed by
August and 320 housing units are nearing completion. These houses once
completed will be owned by those people who are temporarily sheltered at
Thotalanga area.
This time we have adopted a different policy thereby reducing the
possibility of resale of these houses and also to prevent them becoming
slum dwellers once again, the Minister said.
Ministry Secretary P. Ramanujam, Director General of UDA Prasanna
Silva, Chairman of SLLRDC Karunasena Hettiarachchi were also present. |
