Business leaders discuss enhanced trade and investment opportunities
Export Development and International Trade Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris,
met business leaders at the Export Development Board to discuss enhanced
trade and investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, with the advent of
stable peace.
Deputy United States Trade Representative, Michael Delaney during his
recent visit to Sri Lanka travelled to the Eastern Province and, on his
return to Colombo told Prof. Peiris about the potential interest of
American companies in taking advantage of these opportunities,
especially with regard to infrastructure development.
Minister Peiris, after further discussions with United States
Ambassador Robert O Blake, decided to invite Sri Lanka’s business
leaders to join him in an initiative to place at the disposal of
American companies active in India, complete information regarding
opportunities available in Sri Lanka in the new situation.
Prof. Peiris told representatives of the private sector that Sri
Lanka’s High Commissioner in India Romesh Jayasinghe was in close touch
with the American Chamber of Commerce in India with regard to this
initiative.
More than 60 leaders of the business community who participated in
the discussion, expressed their strong support for the proposed
initiative and indicated that they would like to participate. |
