A scene from Uppalavanna |
For the first time in UK, an international Buddhist Film Festival
named 'Many Faces of Buddhism' will be held in London from May 7 to 17.
Around 46 films representing 18 nations along with 27 UK premiers will
comprise the festival which will be held at the Barbican Centre - the
largest multi-arts centre in Europe.
The categories include dramatic features, comedies, documentaries and
animated works. Prem Sanyas ('The Light of Asia'), a German - Indian
co-production relating the historic tale of Prince Siddhartha and his
journey to becoming Buddha will open the event. A score of musicians
lead by sitharist Sidartha Siliceo will also present a live performance.
Sri Lankan film Uppalavanna, a contemporary Theri Gatha depicting the
eventful journey of a young woman from youth to enlightenment, will be
screened on May 14. The movie which was directed by Prof. Sunil
Ariyaratne and produced by Milina Sumathipala on behalf of Sumathi Films
(Pvt) Ltd, will unspool in UK due to a special invitation extended by
the California-based International Buddhist Film Festival (IBFF).
