Rosa Mal Sayanaya to lull movie buffs

Life is full of the unexpected. You never know what it has in store for you. Even if you soothe your feelings that you have played your cards right and believe that success and happiness are in store for you, you never foresee the stormy clouds gathering in the horizons.

Nishantha de Alwis’ latest movie project, Rosa Mal Sayanaya embodies this message when we see a young girl entering the bliss of married life. Yet, the opening of the movie suggests something which is not quite right in her life. Mystery and strangers cloud her mind as the story unravels as a flashback.

Manjula and Pradeep

Life seems a bed of roses for Rosy when Malan vows to be by her side in happiness and sorrow. However she soon realizes her folly as she is thrown into a dark world of mystery and terror. All her efforts to come to terms with her husband’s strange lifestyle shatter once she meets Roshan, a young painter who sees unnatural beauty within the young bride.

The two soon meet and a relationship forms between the pair as Roshan invites Rosy to pose for a painting. Rosy agrees and ultimately they fall in love. However Malan is determined to keep Rosy and eventually his deep, dark secret is uncovered. What will the fate of the lovers be? What is the secret which Malan is so desperately trying to hide?

De Alwis had entered cinema as the assistant director of Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne’s award winning movie Sathara Peranimithi. After scripting dialogues for his debut film, he had gone on to pen the scripts and dialogues for his own creations. He had staged a number of plays like Kochchiya and Locket Lokka, teledramas like Veda Hamuduruwo, Idorayaka Mal Pipila and Suddilage Kathawa.

Manjula Thilini and Pradeep Dharmadasa take on the lead roles of the film along with new entrant Jagath Galappathi. W. Jayasiri, Amarasiri Kalansuriya, Chandana Peries, Ruwan Madanayake, Palitha Galappathi, Chaya Sanjeewani, Buddhima Sewwandi, Padmasiri Athukorala and Lasantha de Alwis make up the rest of the cast.

Rosa Mal Sayanaya had been shot in many locations including areas in Nawalapitiya, Nuwara Eliya, Maskeliya, Bagawanthalawa, Kandy, Kithulgala and Piliyandala. Ananda S. Kapuge is the assistant director of the movie.

Sirinatha Wickramasinghe is the make up artist, Manoj Wickramasinghe the art director and Nilantha Chularatne the cameraman.

The editors are Ruwan Chamara and Ravindra Lal. Young vocalists Pradeep Rangana , Nadini Permadasa and Shalitha Periyantha have rendered their voices for the songs to Sarath de Alwis’ music and lyrics penned by Gunasekara Bandara.

The story, script and dialogues are also by the director. Rosa Mal Sayanaya, a Jani film production, will unfold at Regal cinema and theaters islandwide from May 7.
