Tea harvest up

The tea harvest in the up-country tea plantations has increased
following heavy rains experienced in the area after a long spell of
drought. Estate superintendents said this is a god sent opportunity for
plantation workers as they are now assigned for work seven days of the
week instead of the earlier two or three working days.
WAPS seminar
WAPS seminar will be held on May 4 at the BMICH from 3.00 pm. The
theme of the seminar is Sri Lanka - future of the Nation
YMCA AGM
The 44th Annual General Meeting of the National Council of the Young
Men's Christian Association will be held on Saturday at the Kandy YMCA
Auditorium Kotugodella Veediya, Kandy.
BASL calls for IDP relief
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka calls upon its members to assist its
endeavour to provide relief aid to internally displaced persons. The
BASL Secretariat will collect bottled water, medicine, dry foods, milk
powder, toiletries, clothes (new), towels/bed linen or cash donations
from May 2 to 9 during office hours.
Prize-giving
The Madhrasathul Malharis Sulhiyya, Maligawatte, Colombo has
organized its 46th anniversary and prize giving celebration May 2, 2009
at 4.30 p.m. at the Madharasa premises. Embassy of the Islamic Republic
of Iran in Colombo Cultural Counsellor Dr. Seyed Mahmoud Reza Marandi
will be the chief guest and Barakah Investments Limited Managing
Director M.I.M. Razeek will be the Guest of Honour. President of the
Madhrasa M. T. M. Namiz will preside.
Kathamul Quran recital
Borella Ahadiyya School has organized Kathamul Quran majlis in memory
of Shamsul Hussain, Principal of the Thalapitiya Ahadiyya School and
Registrar of Muslim Marriages on May 3 at 8.30 a.m. at the Borella
Ahadiyya School, Colombo. Principal of the School Shibly Hashim will
preside.
Supplementary Reader
The centre for the study of Human Rights of the University of Colombo
launches the Supplementary Reader on Human Rights and International
Relations today at the Board Room of the Faculty of Law, University of
Colombo. The CSHR organized the above Supplementary Reader in
collaboration with the National Institute of Education (NIE), with the
expertise of the Faculties of Law and Arts, this Reader which was
prepared for students in Grade 11 was written by the CSHR and the NIE.
Hashan gets 32,799 votes
Former test cricketer Hashan Tillekaratne who polled 32,799 votes
from the Western Province was placed sixth in the Colombo district from
the UNP. |
