Paddy processing training for farmer families

The Institute of Post Harvest Technology (IPHT) will train 5,000 families engaged in the paddy processing industry, at village level.

According to sources, the selected families will be given a special training on the techniques of paddy processing which could be turned into a cottage industry, IPHT sources revealed.

Initially, families from Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Ampara, Badulla, Kurunegala and Kandy districts will be trained.

The IPHT hopes to train them as 'Model Paddy Processing Families' in line with the proposed Paddy Processing village program which has commenced already.

Knowledge of innovative paddy processing techniques will be given to them together with domestic machinery and equipment at subsidised rates.
