institutions under its purview have already sent a shipment of sanitary
items for women rescued from the LTTE clutches. About 60 per cent of the
IDPs are women and sanitary wear is one of their main requirements,
Chairperson, National Committee of Women, Dr. Neela Gunasekara said.

and donors can donate these items to the Ministry to be sent to women in
welfare camps. It is one of the essential items that required to
maintain personal hygiene.
According to Dr. Gunasekara, the National Committee and the Women’s
Bureau jointly arranged the shipment. Some women who had been held
captive by the LTTE for long time do not know much about the importance
of maintaining personal hygiene.
