Sri Lanka Embassy in Myanmar organises get-together :
Foreign dignitaries up dated
The Sri Lanka Embassy in Myanmar organised a get-together on April 24
for all Heads of Mission and UN Agencies in Yangon Myanmar with the
intention of bringing all foreign dignitaries up to date on the present
humanitarian operations in Sri Lanka.
The gathering which was well-attended had a participation of over 50
Ambassadors and UN representation, Myanmar’s Sri Lankan Ambassador
Newton Gunaratne presented the audience with certain special extract
from the statement Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama had
made to foreign Ambassadors on April 23 in Colombo.
“Sri Lankan Security Forces have been making steady progress in
recovering territory that the LTTE had gained control, over several
decades.
The final operation that the forces launched was to rescue and
protect the thousands of innocent civilians whom the LTTE endeavoured to
use as their protective shield. Sri Lankan Government along with the
Security Forces is ensuring that these refugees are provided with food,
clothing, shelter and protection at any cost,” stated Ambassador
Gunaratne.
These revelations were made by Ambassador Gunaratne based on the
statements issued by the Sri Lankan Government.
At the end of the session, each invitee was presented with a booklet
with comprehensive information on the issue at hand.
