Relief items are being collected by the Welfare Association of the
BMICH at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre to be
distributed among IDPs rescued in the humanitarian mission in the North.
A humanitarian hand of friendship and assistance is forwarded to
those displaced by the people in the South in their time of need. The
collection of dry rations, clothes, water and other items are collected
and sent to Vavuniya through the Defence Ministry.
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre Coordinator Nimal
Mutukumarana said women's items, instant food like Noodles and Glucose
and bottled water are in short supply and requested the public to donate
these items. Items are transported to Vavuniya with the help of Police
and Army in containers.
They are also in need of cardboard boxes for packing.
The goods of five container lorries were dispatched to Vavuniya on
April 26 and two more were sent yesterday. People are requested to send
new clothes and dry rations while food items like sandwiches or buns
should be submitted in the evening.
Many individuals as well as companies and even Sil Meniyos are making
lavish contributions.
