The 2004 French Open champion Gaston Gaudio, rehabilitating his
tennis after dropping off the rankings map in recent seasons, revealed
Tuesday he has asked for a wild card for the French Open. The
30-year-old South American was ecstatic after beating compatriot Diego
Junqueira 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the Barcelona Open first round as he played
only his third match of the season at ATP level.
"I'd love to play in Roland Garros. I've requested a wild card and am
hoping to get it. This win is unbelievable, it's great to win a match at
this level again," he said at the venue where he lifted the first of his
