Electricity regulation begins

The Public Utilities Commission set up in terms of Electricity Reforms Act No. 28 of 2002 for the regulation of electricity services which will ensure the rights of the electricity consumers will handover its functions as approved by Parliament on March 3 to the Ceylon Electricity Board at the inaugural ceremony to be held on today at Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo presided over by Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne and Policy Planning Minister P. Dayaratne.

Under this Act, the Public Utilities Commission is empowered and vested with the responsibility of maintaining the electricity services at a reasonable price policy to consumers while encouraging investment and development in the sector.
