War Heroes deserve praise and honour - PM
Gammanpila voted most disciplined law abiding
candidate:
Our war heroes deserve historic praise and honour for liberating over
40,000 civilians that were kept as hostages by the world’s most ruthless
terrorist group, the LTTE, said Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka
at the meeting organized by the Society of Academics to introduce
Business Today Magazine’s April Choice Western Provincial Council
election candidate Attorney-at-Law Udaya Gammanpila, held at the
Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on April 21.
Udaya Gammanpila was the choice of Business Today reader poll to
select the Western Provincial Council election candidate that conducts a
principled campaign without violating election laws.
Addressing the gathering the Prime Minister said that we have to
initiate a mega economic development drive as soon as the war is over
and everybody should unite for it.
He stressed the need for a parallel moral development drive and
opined that Buddhism provides the best philosophy for such a drive.
The Prime Minister said the time has come to end violent politics and
re-commence civilized disciplined politics and commended the Business
Today for responsibly organizing the initiative to select the best
candidate. We need more people of the calibre of Udaya Gammanpila, he
added.
Mass Media and Information Minister addressing the gathering said
that the Western Province occupies a significant place in the country’s
economy and politics and that we need people such as Udaya Gammanpila to
give a new direction to the development of the province.
The result of the Business Today Survey is quite justified, he added.
This choice strengthens the voice that is rising in society in favour of
knowledgeable and learned politicians.
The best way to honour the war heroes who have sacrificed their lives
and limbs to defend the country is by developing the country
economically. If we are to develop independently from regional powers
like India, if we are prosperous as witnessed by the example of Taiwan
neighbouring China and Japan neighbouring Russia, said Udaya Gammanpila. |
