Anunayake Thera’s funeral Saturday

The cremation of Ven. Ambanwelle Sri Pannasekera Anunayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter will be held in Kandy on Saturday April 11 afternoon.

The Ven. Pannasekara Anunayake Thera passed away on Tuesday aged 85.

The remains lying at the Kotmale Kalapitiya Deeparama Viharaya for the public to pay respect will be taken to the Sangharaja Pirivena, Kandy on April 10.

Born in Ambanwelle, Walapone on December 27, 1924 Ven. Pannasekara was ordained on January 25, 1940 under the tutelage of Ven. Ambanwelle Sri Ratnasara Anunayake Thera. He received higher ordination at the Uposathagaraya of the Malwatte Chapter on June 6, 1945.

After serving as a teacher at Ananda College Colombo and several other schools he also served as Parivenadhipathi of the Sangharaja Pirivena affiliated to the Malwatu Maha Viharaya.

He was appointed Anunayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter on May 24, 1999 and earned praise here and abroad for his indefatigable services to the Sasana and society.
