Salma Hayek eyes role in ‘Kidnapping’ film

Salma Hayek

Mexican-born film star Salma Hayek could take a lead role in an upcoming adaptation of the book “News of a Kidnapping” by Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the movie’s producer says.

Shooting is scheduled to start this October in Bogota and in Mexico on the adaptation of the 1996 book, a factual account of the kidnapping of 10 journalists by notorious Colombian drug trafficker Pablo Escobar.

Producer Eduardo Constantini, from Argentina, told AFP he hopes for “the most international cast possible” and that Hayek is a possibility. “Salma Hayek is very interested in the project, has read the script and is enthusiastic,” Constantini said in New York.

Several books by Garcia Marquez, considered one of the major writers of the 20th century, have been made into films, including his novels “Love in the Time of Cholera” and “One Hundred Years of Solitude.”

Johnny Depp

Depp is Puerto Rico’s golden boy

Johnny Depp left his hotel in Puerto Rico and headed over to the set of ‘The Rum Diary’.

His fans might be very excitable, but Johnny’s been looking as cool as a cucumber while filming. His work isn’t limited to movies these days - he’s also set to guest star on an upcoming episode of ‘SpongeBob Square- Pants’. His character teaches SpongeBob how to surf, so maybe Johnny can use his current experience in the Caribbean as an added bonus.

Stewart fears ‘Twilight’ fans

Kristen Stewart

‘Twilight’ star Kristen Stewart is terrified of the gangs of female fans who stalk her and co-star Robert Pattinson.

The pair was thrust into the limelight when they were cast as the stars of the vampire franchise. Pattinson became a heartthrob overnight, and Stewart fears the wrath of fans jealous of their onscreen romance. She tells USA Today, “You show up at these places, and there’s literally like a thousand girls and they’re all screaming your name.

Girls are scary. Large groups of girls scare the (crap) out of me. They covet him.

I think half of them are so jealous that they hate me.”

Eighteen-year-old Stewart has learned some quick advice to avoid being mobbed: “More than three girls of that certain age - run away.”

Marion Cotillard in talks for film with DiCaprio

Marion Cotillard

French actress Marion Cotillard is in talks for a role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the next film by Christopher Nolan, the British writer/director who made the last two Batman movies.

Cotillard, who won the Oscar for best actress in 2008 for her portrayal of legendary French singer Edith Piaf in “La Vie en Rose,” could join the cast of “Inception,” the Hollywood trade daily said, describing it as a sci-fi action flick set in the architecture of the human mind.

Ellen Page, the Canadian actress who was nominated for an Academy Award last year for “Juno,” also may sign on.

Nolan made the last two Batman movies: “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight,” the latter of which rang up a billion dollars in box office sales in 2008, making it the fourth highest grossing film of all time.

Cotillard, 33, is appearing in other Hollywood movies including “Nine,” a musical due out at the end of this year, and “Public Enemies,” a gangster flick starring Johnny Depp and scheduled for release in North America in June.
