The public should be vigilant and extra cautious during the Sinhala
and Tamil New Year festive season to avoid possible LTTE attacks in the
South.
Addressing the media at the MCNS yesterday, Military spokesman
Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said since the LTTE was facing defeat in the
Vanni they would try to create mayhem and destruction in the South.
“Desperate LTTE cadres are looking for opportunities to infiltrate
and cause maximum destruction to civilian movements,” he added.
Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said there are certain
elements attempting to disrupt public movement during the festive season
by attacking public transport.
Police has taken measures to control the situation.
He said three suspects were arrested in connection with attacking a
bus.
“We have deployed three police teams to investigate the matter,” he
added. A special police mobile patrol, motorcycle patrol and civil
forces are on duty to control the situation.
He also said that long distance buses have been provided security. |
