Langauge no barrier
"I have no problem whatsoever working in Sinhala and Tamil languages.
Lunugala Divisional Secretary Area has gazetted as a bilingual DS
division.I also understand little Tamil. I also can speak in Tamil.
Any Tamil or Muslim person who presents their grievances in Tamil
language is mostly welcome in my office. I get my officers to attend to
their needs immediately. Therefore, language issue is an attitude" said
Prabath Abayawardana, Divisional Secretary, addressing a workshop on
Language Rights Advocacy for Human Rights Protection, held at the
auditorium of Lunugala DS office, recently.
Grama Niladhari, Samurdhi Niyamakas, Nurses, Representatives of Civil
Society organizations, media and clergy participated. The workshop was
organized by the Future in Our Hands Development Fund, Badulla in
collaboration with the Foundation for Co Existence and funded by the
European Commission.
