Induction of BAR Assn President

The induction of W. Dayaratne as President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka for 2009/2010 will take place at the annual convocation at the Ceylon Continental Hotel today at 6.00 p.m.

He was the Bar Association Secretary from 1997-1999 and has been a member of the Executive Committee for many years.

Udaya Rohan de Silva has been re-elected uncontested for another year of office to the post of Secretary of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka for 2009/2010.


Remembering Sir John

The 112th Birth Anniversary commemoration of Sir John Kotelawala will be held at the statue of Sir John Kotelawala at the Kotelawala Defence University, Kandawala Estate, Ratmalana on April 5 at 10.00 a.m. with the laying of a floral tribute.


Festival of fine arts

The Institute of Human Excellence (IHE) together with Youth League for Sanathana Dharmic Perception (YLSDP) and Lions Club of Colombo Central 306 - B1 under the Chairmanship of Lion Dr. T. Kumaraverl have organised a "Festival of Fine Arts" which will be held at Ramakrishna Mission hall, Wellawatte today.

It will be presided by Deshamanya Dr. Ponna Wignarajah.The Chief Guest will be Jone Summers, Country Program Manager, Oxfa G B - Sri Lanka.


AGM and get-together

The Annual General Meeting and get-together of the Matale Old Thomians' Association, Colombo branch will be held tomorrow from 9.30 a.m. at the Ambalama Leisure Lounge, Ihala Hanwella.

Part of the proceeds of the sale of tickets and other collections would go to the College Scholarship Fund.

The OBA Committee has arranged a special bus for participants which will start near Regal Theatre, Colombo Fort at 8 a.m.


Avurudhu sale with Eve

The Colombo (Host) Lion Ladies "Avurudhu Sale with EVE" will be held tomorrow from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. at St. Paul's Milagiriya Hall, Galle Road, Colombo 4. Entrance is free.


Kaththamul Quran

The 40th Kaththamul Quran Thamam Majlis for the Spiritual Leader of Hambantota Muhammadiya Association His Holiness As-Seyyed Aydhuroos Shareef Moulana (Al-Quadiri) who passed away recently will be held tomorrow at 10.30 a.m. at the Hambantota Muhammadiya Association Majlis Hall.

Western Province Governor Al Haj Alavi Mowlana will preside.

A musical mediation organised by the Interact Club and Eastern Music Unit of Sri Sumangala College, Panadura will be held today at the school auditorium.


Sick from chocolate

Thirteen year six students of Ampara Gamini Maha Vidyalaya who consumed chocolate while celebrating the birthday of a colleague were admitted to the Ampara General Hospital after they fell sick. "The children are out of danger," acting Medical Superintendent Dr. K.V.C. Perera said. The chocolates are in the PHIs' custody.
