Enjoined from making false statements

Colombo District Judge Sampath Wijeratne issued an enjoining order restraining the Mawbima Lanka Padanama making false and baseless statements on the products of Nestle Lanka Company.

The Court issued the Order after considering a plaint filed by Nestle Lanka Company that alleged that statements made by the Mawbima Lanka Padanama against them was defamatory.

The plaintiff Nestle Lanka Company cited Mawbima Lanka Padanama as the defendant.

The plaintiff stated that it imports, packs and distributes milk powder.

The plaintiff also stated that the Defendant directors including Ariyaseela Wickramanayake made false and baseless allegations against the plaintiff.

The plaintiff also stated that the defendant maintained a website and it also carried articles defamatory of the plaintiff.

The plaintiff also stated the defendant made these with malicious intentions as Ariyaseela Wickramanayake is the Chairman of the Pelwatta Dairies (Pvt) Ltd which intends to produce milk products.

The plaintiff pleaded before the Court to issue an enjoining order restraining the defendant from making false statements against the plaintiff.

The Court issued notice on the defendant to appear before the Court on March 31.
