Gem and jewellery sector grows 11 percent


Enterprise Development, Investment Promotion, Mass Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadharsana Yapa participates at the opening the Lustre 2009 exhibition.

The gem, diamond and jewellery sector has grown by 11 per cent during 2008 bringing in a revenue of Rs. 57.8 billion, said Enterprise Development, Investment Promotion, Mass Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadharsana Yapa on March 27, opening the Lustre 2009 exhibition sponsored by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority at the BMICH. The Minister said the much awaited gem testing laboratory will be established soon.

Enterprise Development Minister Mano Wijeratne, Gem and Jewellery Association Chairman Macky Hassim and Gem and Jewellery Authority Chairman Hasith Thilakaratne were also present.
