Ishara hopes to win a Gold at SA Games

Ishara Madurangi from Sri Devananda College Ambalangoda is a gifted
Table Tennis player.
In 2004
she was selected for the Sri Lanka National team for the
first time and she won the National championships in 2004
and 2008, and also won the Junior Nationals in 2005, 2006,
and 2007 |
She is among the best women’s TT players in the Island and also
number one ranked Player in the schools.
Ishara was adjudged most outstanding sportswoman of the year at the
16th annual Milo Schools Colours Awards Ceremony held at the BMICH,
Colombo recently.
Ishara Madurangi started playing Table Tennis at the age of eight
years following in the footsteps of her elder brother who was a TT
player. She clinched Southern Province under 8 championship in her very
first year.[1998] . In the next year she clinched the All Island under 9
championship.
In 2004 she was selected for the Sri Lanka National team for the
first time and she won the National championships in 2004 and 2008, and
also won the Junior National championship in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
Ishara captained the Sri Lanka team at the South Asian Junior schools
tournament in Pakistan where she was able to win two silver medals and a
bronze medal. She represented Sri Lanka at the Asian TT Tournament held
in Singapore. She also represented the country at the world
championships in China.
Isara Madurangi emerged the best women’s player at the 34th National
Sports Festival and was the champion in the 62nd National championships.
She was adjudged the most outstanding women’s player at the Chrys
Gunaratne memorial tournament where she won the under 18 and under 21;
girls open and also the girls Doubles titles.
Ishara told the Daily News still she has no sponsor to help her to
meet her expenses. Her Mother and father find it difficult to bear her
expenses.
She paid a glowing tribute to H M Sumathipala Principal of Sri
Devananda College and her coach A W Anura lal for taking great pains to
make her a champion table tennis player. Isara said that her next target
is South Asian Games at which she hopes to win a Gold Medal. |
