hearing loss.
Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist of the National Hospital, Colombo
Dr. T.R.C. Ruberu says Akarsha has to undergo a cochlear implant surgery
which will cost nearly Rs. 2.8 million.
The parents seek public assistance to meet the expenditure.

Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk on “In total silence the mind comes upon the
eternal” delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be
replayed at Anula Nursery school hall 310 High Level Road, Colombo 6 at
9.45 a.m. on Sunday, March 29.
The event is organised by the Krishnamurthi Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.
Splendour of Colours
“Splendour of Colours”, an exhibition by the young artists of Leeds
International School, Panadura will open at the National Art Gallery,
Colombo on April 03 and 04 from 9.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Renowned Artist S.H. Sarath will be the Chief Guest. Veteran artists
Daya Rajapaksha, Bandula Harischandra, Deegoda Kumara, Balangoda
Sarathmadu, Janaka Ratnayake, Kamilas Perera will also attend. This
exhibition marks the 10th anniversary of the school which falls in
September 2009. Nearly 250 exhibits will be on display.
AAP seminar
A seminar/ workshop themed ‘A New Profile for Administrative
Professionals’ will be held on Saturday from 8.30 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the
Cinnamon Grand. The Academy for Administrative Professionals (AAP)
organises the event. Managing Director for Chevron Sri Lanka Kishu Gomes
will be the Chief Guest. T. Sayandhan, Dr. T. Sabesan Eromal Ranaweera
and Priyanthi Dias will speak on many topics.
AGM
The Ceylon Association for the Mentally Retarded will hold its 40th
AGM, on March 31 at the Connie Welikala Hall, 435/1, Galle Road, Mount
Lavinia.
Research Conference
The Royal Asiatic Society Sri Lanka will hold its third Research
Conference on Friday and Saturday. The Society will launch the first
Sinhala Studies Conference. There will be a special session on the
archaeology of the Eastern Province. Over 60 peer-reviewed research
papers will be presented in two parallel sessions. Sessions will be from
8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Hospital opens
Mahinda P. Liyanage, Galle Central special corr.
The Hospital of Gonnagahahena, Ahangama, completely renovated under a
special project costing Rs. 2 million, funded by the Caritas SED Galle,
the Galle Diocesan Social and Economic Development Centre was opened
recently.
Southern Provincial Health Minister, A.G.C. Piyasiri was the chief
guest.
He needs your help
G. Chandrasiri of 8/B/1, Pallekanda, Omalpe, Embilipitiya is
undergoing treatment for cancer. He needs an estimated at Rs. 1.2
million for six injections according to Dr. Yasantha Ariyaratne of the
Cancer Hospital.
He is a farmer with a two year old child and seeks assistance as he
is unable to bear this cost. Remittances could be channelled to A/C No.
10118420 of the Sabaragamuwa Development Bank (Embilipitiya Branch) as
donations.
Panel discussion postponed
The panel discussion on the ‘Global Financial Crisis’ (with special
reference to Australia and Sri Lanka) organized b y the Bandaranaike
Centre for International Studies (BCIS), scheduled to be held on March
26, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.
Avurudu pola
The All Ceylon Women’s Buddhist Congress, will hold its Annual Avrudu
Pola this year to raise funds for the heroic Ranaviru families the
Internal Displaced Persons in our country.
The Pola will be held on March 28 at ACWBC Headquarters, 400,
Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.
There will be Avurudu gifts and Avurudu needs such as traditional
sweetmeats, readymade clothes, sarees, linen etc at bargain prices. A
Raffle Draw will also be held.
“Annual Report and Accounts Competition
Best Annual Report and Accounts competition of National Schools -
2009” organised by the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri
Lanka (AATSL) in collaboration with the Education Ministry will be held
on March 27 and March 31 from 9.00 a.m. at the Prof. Lakshman R.
Watawala Auditorium of the AATSL.
