Consultants highlight difficulties
Harshini Perera and Ishara Mudugamuwa
The Kandy Hospital Consultants Association has written to Health
Ministry Secretary Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage, stating the difficulties
in providing a efficient service towards patients and ensuring adequate
teaching and training facilities for medical undergraduates and
postgraduates.
They also state that this state of affairs is due to the increased
number of students in clinical groups where basic facilities available
have not been improved for the last three decades.
As a result medical education at the Peradeniya has drastically
deteriorated over the Past few years.
They further state that certain issues on the Paramedical degree
should also be resolved and request the Secretary to pay a visit and
assess the environment for studies at the Teaching Hospital, Kandy.
The Government Medical Officers' Association, (GMOA) has also written
to the President in this regard.
