Chilean President visits India
Chilie: Chilean President, Michelle Bachelet, was due in India
yesterday on an invitation by her counterpart, Pratibha Devisingh Patil,
the Chilean Foreign Ministry has confirmed.
The visit is considered important as it coincides with the 60th
anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Chile and
India.
She will meet with president Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
as well as the chancellor, the leader of the opposition and president of
the National Indian Congress Party as well as governors of the states of
Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Through her visit Bachelet aims to
"strengthen economic and trade ties in the spheres of education, science
and technology," informed the director general of Foreign Policy of the
Chancellery, Juan Pablo Lire who accompanies the president.
He informed that authorities of both countries will sign cooperation
agreements in renewable energy, education, geology and mineral
resources, exploration and use of space for peaceful purposes,
agricultural innovations, information technologies, trade and
investments.
