Cambrians crush Sebastianites

Prince of Wales' College beat St. Sebastian's College by 148 runs in their annual 24th limited overs match played at De Soysa Stadium.

Winning the toss the Cambrians occupied the crease and soon their first five batsmen were in the pavilion for 76 runs. At this stage skipper Buddhika de Alwis joined deputy skipper and Sri Lanka schools cricket poolist Dilan Chandima and pulverised the Sebastianites attack to all corners of the ground. They put on 171 runs for the sixth wicket and erased the previous record of 61 runs held by V. Jayakulasuriya and Priyantha Mendis for Cambrians in 1992.

Also this is a record for any wicket in this limited over series. Also they surpassed the previous highest score of 250 for 9 set by Sebastians in 1997.

Dilan Chandima scored 116 runs and equalled the highest score set by former Cambrian Sahan Wijerathne. Chaminda had seven fours and sixes in his cavalier knock while de Alwis five fours and three sixes.

In reply St. Sebastians were all out for 134 runs with Sanitha de Mel scoring 54 runs with eight fours and one six.

Mohomed Hashim is the pick of the bowlers for Cambrians with 4 for 32. Now the tally stands at eleven each and two no decisions. The match was reduced to 48 overs due to overnight rain.

Chief scores:

Prince of Wales 282 for 9 in 48 overs (Dilan Chandima 116, Buddhika de Alwis 77, Sanitha de Mel 2 for 53, A. de Alwis 2 for 39, Charith Fernando 2 for 57).

St. Sebastian's 134 in 40.1 overs (Sanitha de Mel 54, Brian Paul 28, Deshan Dias 22, Mohomed Hashim 4 for 32, Nipun Chamara 2 for 39).
