Cricketers were promised maximum security

Our cricketers were attacked by terrorists in Pakistan - there are problems between countries, and there are quarrels between countries, but Sri Lanka doesn't have such problems.

Our cricketers went to play in Pakistan because our country has friendly relationships with other countries - further Pakistan had promised to provide the maximum security to our cricketers, said the Minister of Media Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena.

He expressed these views when he participated in the annual sportsmeet of Matara Central College as the chief guest.

There were competitions between the Houses - 'Sathya, Maithree, Veerya and Shanthi', in the school playground. This event was well-organised under the guidance of the school principal Ven. Sastrapathi Abesekaragama Gunarathana Thera.

The Senior Supdt of Police Matara, P.B.G. Ayupala, Regional Education Director, W.R. Weerakoon and some principals of closer schools were also present.

Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that our cricketers have a very good discipline and the whole world have a very clear impression about them.

He said they can face any challenge. We get the confidence to face challenges from the schools education and extra curricular activities we do in the schools help a lot to face any problems. Now-all the world accept that our Army has a very high discipline and our Army Commander is the best in the world as a citizen of the country we can be proud. The children of Matara Central College also have a higher discipline Sports competitions are necessary to increase the self-confidence of children. So this school provides responsible and great citizens to the society. The Minister said that he is ready to help this school at any time.

The Principal Ven. Sasthrapathi Abesekaragama Gunarathana Thera said, sportsmeet was held after several years, it should be done annually. Complete citizens cannot be donated to society only from the classroom, good health condition, discipline and patience can be put into the minds of children only from the sports and other extra activities. They should be in a position to get the win as the loss too.
