Four doctors, six nurses for :

Pulmudai Mobile Hospital

The Health Ministry will deploy four doctors and six nurses to the Mobile Hospital being constructed at the Pulmudai Mineral refinery for civilians fleeing uncleared areas, in addition to the 52 member medical team sent by India.

Health Ministry sources said a Medical Officer has also been assigned to monitor the functioning of the hospital which is being constructed by the Health Ministry in collaboration with the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka.

The hospital consisting of a Neuro surgical unit, Out Door Patient unit, Xray unit, two theatres, laboratory, surgical ward , an Intensive Care Unit and four medical wards is expected to provide basic facilities for the civilians coming from uncleared areas. Patients with serious ailments will be transferred to Padaviya and Vavuniya Hospitals where facilities are available.

The Pulmudai Hospital will be opened to the public after electricity and water facilities are provided. The construction of a ward complex with two surgical theatres is under way at the Padaviya Hospital to ensure that these civilians receive better health facilities.

The ministry expects to accommodate 120 patients in a ward. Health Services Director General Dr.Ajith Mendis on Friday inspected the Padaviya Garment factory where the Ministry has planned to set up a hospital consisting of 350 beds to meet any emergency. Meanwhile, Northern Province hospitals will get more than 110 nurses while over 250 nurses are to be posted to the Eastern hospitals in the coming weeks. A group of 25 Sinhalese nurses are among the contingent to be deployed to the Killinochchi hospital.
