The Volkswagen Beetle rally organized by the enthusiastic Athugalpura
Beetle Owners' Club hit the streets in Kurunegala on Sunday. The rally
saw the participation of 23 Classic Beetle cars.
The Athugalpura Beetle Owners' Club was formed on March 01 this year
with beetle lovers, and many youngsters involved.
It was the first Volkswagen Beetle Club formed outside Colombo after
the Beetle Owners' Club was formed in 1996.
The rally was a huge success though it was planned in a very short
period of time while the organizers managed to enter such a vast number
of cars.
The inaugural drive was named as the 'Kurunegala City Visit' which
featured the Beetles rallying for about 20 km around the historical city
of Kurunegala.
It was a great pleasure for the city crowd to see some of the classic
cars rallying through with pride.
The club aims to offer advice and help on the restoration,
maintenance and preservation of the Beetle and to liaise with other
clubs which have the same objectives.
The organizers hope to promote the Classic Beetle and to have more
rallies in the future in Kurunegala. The officials hope to persuade
Beetle owners to join the club. |
