Surgery on Minister

Post and Telecommunication Minister Mahinda WijesEkera and two other persons have been airlifted from Matara hospital to Colombo National Hospital owing to their serious injuries after yesterday’s bomb explosion at Godapitiya Jumma Masjid mosque.

National Hospital Director General Dr. Hector Weerasinghe yesterday said, Minister Mahinda Wijesekera has sustained severe head injuries and was immediately taken to the operating theatre of the National Hospital for neurosurgical treatment.

The doctors have performed surgery on the Minister and he is under constant surveillance of neuro surgeons, said Dr. Weerasinghe.

The two patients who were taken to the hospital with serious injuries along with the Minister were put under intensive care, he said. He said, a team of special medical officers has been flown to Matara to help the victims on the directions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, aboard a Sri Lanka Air Force 30-seater MI 17 helicopter.
